When Günter Bischof, longtime history professor and Director Emeritus of Center Austria at UNO, retired, his family established the Günter Bischof Endowed Scholarship for Research and Travel in his honor. The scholarship supports students pursuing research and travel focused on Austrian and American diplomatic history.

Selected by Center Austria Director Dr. Marc Landry, the inaugural recipients are Dzana Fazlic (University of Innsbruck) and Jose Lozano (University of New Orleans). Fazlic, who studies sport science in Innsbruck, was able to use her scholarship to support an internship at UNO’s Recreation and Fitness Center. Lozano, a student in UNO’s History MA program, traveled to Vienna to engage in archival research on his thesis concerning nationalism in the 19th-century Habsburg Empire. Both students expressed their sincere gratitude to the Bischof family for their generous support.
