The Center at 25.

A Celebration.

I came to UNO 20 (!) years ago in August 2002 for a Master’s degree in political science, together with my 3-year old son Felix (here we are at 6205 Waldo Drive). Moving halfway across the world to go to graduate school as a single mom was sort of ambitious, and there is absolutely no way I could have done any of it without the scholarship and support from UNO’s Center Austria and the Department of Political Science.

My initial plan of getting a Master’s degree (2003) eventually turned into a PhD (2008), in between I added my husband Nick, a native New Orleanian, and our daughter Anna, born in 2007. Since then, I have been an Assistant Professor at Colorado State University (2008-2013), had one more child (Theodore), and since 2013 have been at the University of Amsterdam, where I am now an Associate Professor.

We come back to New Orleans a lot, and will always be connected. There are too many people than I can mention, but thank you, Gertraud and Günter from Center Austria, Charlie Hadley, Dick Engstrom, and Chris Day from the Department of Political Science, and Hannes Richter and Michael Hess from my cohort. I am fortunate to have met you all and miss you!
