The Center at 25.

A Celebration.

From Student to Friend!

My personal NOLA memories starts with my first year as a Graduate Assistant at the Department of History of the University of New Orleans in 1994/95 – when there was no Center Austria yet. But, of course, Günter Bischof was already there taking care of a total of five Tyrolean students, including me.

When I returned to the „Deep South“ in 1997 to finish my M.A. degree in History, I could benefit from Gertraud Griessner’s woman power in the newly-established Center Austria and even help with Günter’s 1998 Marshall Plan Conference. Especially the long-lasting friendship with Günter up to the present kept me informed about Center Austria; in 2021 I was even invited to serve as co-editor for an issue of Contemporary Austrian Studies together with Dr. Hans Petschar from the Austrian National Library – what an honor!
