On July 18, 2019, the Ambassador of Austria to the United States, Wolfgang Waldner, officiated the opening of an exhibit and a book presentation at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC. Entitled Towards the American Century: Austrians in the United States, the book, published by uno press and corresponding exhibit investigate the history and impact of Austrian immigrants to the United States. The ongoing project aims to provide comprehensive information on the subject from both a macro- and micro perspective, ranging from personal profiles to broader historical trajectories. Both the book and the exhibit represent the first results of this ongoing effort, which will continue to provide resources for both the public and scholars in the future.

The project is the result of a cooperation between the Austrian Marshall Plan Center for European Studies at The University of New Orleans (Center Austria) and the Austrian Press and Information Service in the United States at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC. The project is overseen by Professor Günter Bischof (Center Austria) and Dr. Hannes Richter (Austrian Embassy), and was inaugurated by Ambassador Waldner.
