Black and Gold Fever in Austria

The incredible success of the New Orleans Saints football team brought hope, pride, joy and fun to New Orleans and the entire gulf coast region. Black and Gold fever also can be felt in a country that is traditionally more interested in soccer and skiing than American football: Austria.

Some of us Austrian students had the chance to be in the Superdome on September 25th 2006, and experience this unforgettable event. Throughout the magic Saints season, we went to games in the Dome and began to like the game more and more. After the win against Philadelphia,  we decided to take our new new- found passion back to our home country after the end of our studies at UNO.

We want to strengthen the longstanding bonds developed through the UNO- LFU Innsbruck program and to support the New Orleans-Innsbruck relationship and just to make the Saints and football more popular in Europe, we founded a club named it “First Down”. We are pretty sure we are the first European New Orleans Saints Fan Club. We are off to a great start: 21 members already joined the club and we think chances are good that there will be lots of  “Who Dat” chants being heard in Europe the next season.
